What is a lifetime mortgage?

Available for people 55 or older (max age 95), this type of plan is a loan secured on your home where you retain full ownership of your home.

With this type of plan you can release capital from your home as a single lump sum or in smaller amounts in line with your requirements. The loan is typically repaid when you pay off the plan, pass away or you go into long term care. You retain ownership of your home. To take out a lifetime mortgage you need to take independent advice first.

The amount of cash you release depends on factors such as your age and the value of your home.

There are typically no payments to make as the loan and interest repayments are repaid when the plan ends. You can opt to pay the monthly interest if you wish.

With a lifetime mortgage there is no affordability criteria requirement based on your income.

So if you have no current mortgage then releasing equity through a retirement mortgage may be an option for you.
