Best ways to finance a Ferrari car purchase in the UK

Purchasing a Ferrari car with asset finance

Asset finance is an excellent solution for business owners looking to purchase an expensive asset, in this case, a Ferrari car. To most, buying outright with cash is infeasible as a costly asset requires sizable funding that is not always to hand.

As a business owner, a company purchase of necessary equipment or machinery or indeed a vehicle may amount to upwards of £50,000
(if purchasing outright).

However, a more affordable solution can be found with asset finance and business owners can arrange these terms with the vendor or dealership in question.

It is important to clarify the differences between asset finance and a business loan

Why use asset finance to buy a Ferrari car?

In addition to being one of the most recognisable Italian luxury sports car brands - Ferrari’s timeless design and the car’s stellar performance set the bar for the industry.

Enthusiasts and motorsports fans agree; a Ferrari is an enviable and iconic fast car from the land of fast cars.

However, these tastes can come at significant costs – a Ferrari GT such as the Portofino starts from £193,177.

When it comes to Ferrari, there are no inexpensive options from their current line-up of nine models (with additional special models of both the GT and sports car variety)
Additionally, Ferrari is yet to breach the EV market.

However, their current Purosangue SUV model will have a fully electric spin-off (due 2025). Until then, there are only hybrid models available.

Through conventional means, Ferraris are out of reach for many individuals and businesses.

Thankfully, options are available with asset finance which allows a business a sizeable purchase while also protecting cash flow and stability.

With your loan secured against the physical asset, i.e. the Ferrari – you can repay through your asset finance plan through affordable monthly payments instead of outright cash.

Types of asset finance for a Ferrari car purchase

There are a number of finance plans and offers from Ferrari, and many follow the same form. They include:

Additional information can be found on their website through Ferrari financial services.

Additionally, consider Company Car Tax and the agreed-upon deposit before asset finance, as this may affect your budget overall and require more financial planning.

Hire purchase

Hire purchase is a finance plan allowing acquisition through a loan. Once repaid, ownership of the Ferrari is transferred to you upon the final payment of the “option to purchase fee”.

Offers from Ferrari have a range of required deposits, depending on the plan and car (anywhere from 10% to 30% customer deposit). Hire purchase allows an appropriate term for monthly repayment (48 months).

Additionally, mileage restrictions can vary with this type of asset finance and depend on the available model.

Balloon Hire purchase

A “balloon payment” is simply choosing to defer a final amount to be paid at the end of the term to manage monthly payments – meaning you make smaller monthly payments but will have a larger lump sum to pay at the end of the hire purchase.

Ferrari typically offers fixed terms (48 months) across their many finance plans. However, the model type and the mileage allowed can affect the total of the final balloon payment.

This follows the hire purchase plan, with the attachment of a balloon payment which can be ideal for buyers of higher-end models of considerable value.

Balanced payments

Balanced payment plans offer a fixed monthly payment but require a larger deposit. However, the caveat is that changes can occur to the interest rate.

The rate on a balanced payment plan is based on; The Bank of England, the finance house base rate or the London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR), depending on your agreement.

This plan is not advisable for first-time buyers. Instead, it is recommended only for the experienced investor – as it comes with risk and reward.

However, with a variable rate, those with an appetite for risk can see savings on purchases if they’re looking into getting their hands on some of the latest Ferrari models.

Contract purchase

A contract hire follows the same form; a hire purchase combined with a balloon payment option. The estimated value of the car will determine the final payment amount.

Contract hire may be best suited to those who wish to hire an expensive, high-end Ferrari model without worrying about ownership.

With contract purchases, business owners and customers may claim expenses on monthly rental costs for the hire of the car. Additionally, VAT may be recoverable for VAT-registered businesses.

Ferrari offers a flexible scenario with contract purchase – you pay monthly at a fixed rate (over 48 months), and you can include a servicing/maintenance package into the monthly rental cost.

Bear in mind, with this option, you will not own the car - contract purchasing will mean you only hire the Ferrari car. When the term of hire comes to an end, you simply return the vehicle to Ferrari.

Personal contract purchase (PCP)

With PCP car finance, you get a flexible finance plan, similar to other forms of asset finance, but with a different approach.

With Ferrari PCP, the repayment period is fixed at 48 months, and the annual mileage is agreed upon, alongside the amount deferred for the final payment.

Where PCP differs is the three options available at the end of the agreement:

What happens at the end of an asset finance plan?

This will depend entirely on which asset finance plan you go for. Ultimately, once the loan is paid, you either own the Ferrari, have the option to purchase it, or, if you have chosen a contract purchase, you will have returned the car after the final payment.

Which is recommended will be determined by your own circumstances, but there are many flexible options for financing a Ferrari.

Due to its global renown as an Italian sports car brand, Ferraris typically have a stable high-end value.

Yet, it is normal for any driven car that is not brand new to depreciate in value over time. However, over the coming years, petrol vehicles may depreciate some as the EV market dominates.

An asset finance option that provides flexibility is perhaps most beneficial. And the asset finance plan that offers this is PCP or contract hire.
